Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a special International Training Camp with Sports Mind-Set Coach Noel Flannery from Scotland and our National Coach PJ Nolan in the SBI HQ on Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th of July.
The aim of the camp was to help prepare our National Team and leading junior players Mentally, Technically and Tactically for the 2024 HIBSF Home Internationals which will be held in the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds from the 2nd – 10th of August.
Junior Session
On the Saturday Morning from 10am-1pm Noel held a special Junior camp where he went through his programs to help our players understand how important Hydration, Nutrition, Rest and Sleep is so important to perform at their best.
PJ also held sessions for all the players on Break-Building, Cue Ball Control and Match-Play Drills plus all the players had their technique checked on camera. We also held Mini Match-Play events so Noel could watch our players in match-play mode.
Camp Booklet
In the afternoon, Senior payers joined in on the day and all the players competed a personal chart on their overall game which covered everything from Technique, Mental Fitness, Life-Style, Practice Facilities and Physical fitness.
The players also received a camp booklet with Practice Drills, Program to develop Smarter Goals and a check list to do before, during and after matches in Leeds with Practice, Travel, Clothes, Equipment, Sleep, Nutrition and Mental Fitness.
Developing Fundamentals
The whole session was hailed a big success and all the players were very happy with the content. PJ worked on developing good fundamentals in their Cueing, Approach, Stance and Delivery, this is to build up their self-confidence by knowing technically they are strong to perform at their best.
Noel said ” I was delighted to come over to Ireland to help SBI and their players to prepare for matches in this HIBSF Championships in Leeds next week. The Academy is world class and the player’s commitment was excellent and it was a pleasure coaching and assisting PJ this weekend. I hope my advice helps the Irish players develop good fundamentals in their preparation and on the match-day.
Day 2:
On the Sunday Noel again completed a seminar on Mind-Set’s, Hydration, Nutrition and Rest and Sleep and our National Coach PJ Nolan put the players through their paces with sessions on Break-Building, Safety, Long Potting and the players again had their Technique checked on the big screen in the Academy.
The players were also shown Sports Mental Videos on developing good habits and a Q&A was held. Noel also has one to sessions with the players. All the players were very happy with the course content and thanked Noel for all his work over the weekend.
Training Aids
The latest training aids were used in the camp like the QLine, Mini Domin Eye, Blade Cue, Master Doctor, Str8aim SA-1 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls to help players to get on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in their delivery.
SBI would like to thank all the players for attending this training camp and we wish all the players good luck in Leeds. We hope our players can develop what was said at the camp and the play with Confidence and Pride in the Irish Waistcoat.
