The 4th SBI Super Seniors Over 55’s of the season seen us travel to Nenagh and was staged in the beautiful New Institute Club. It has to be said, the conditions were absolutely admirable and kudos to everyone involved in the running of the club because the club is in a wonderful condition and is absolutely wonderful to play in
Ernie McMullen won the third Super Seniors event of the season playing some wonderful Snooker which was played in the delightful CYMS Newbridge club in Co. Kildare. If there was a milk cart race, I think Ernie would have won that too. (Am I showing my age?). In the first round, Ernie beat Eugene Hughes
Stephen Merrigan, our National Champion, won the second Super Seniors over 55’s tournament of the season beating Ernie McMullen 3-2 in a closely fought final in a tournament that seen 15 entries & was played in the wonderful Roadstone Social Club. Sunday the 2nd of October seen the first Super Seniors over 55’s event of the season take place in the wonderful SBI Academy of Excellence in a beautiful sunny County Carlow. 16 players entered the competition with the notable exception of our current National Champion, Stephen Merrigan. Fifteen players went to post for the 2022 SBI Super Senior championships at the SBI centre in Carlow with play commencing at 10.30 am. All the players were delighted with the conditions and a very enjoyable tournament took place. This year’s SBI over 55’s National Championships were played on Sunday November 21st in St. Conleth’s CYMS in Newbridge. Play commenced at 12 pm with 13 players participating. In his opening comments TD Tony Thorpe remarked that this event is the very first Super Senior Tournament to be held in R.O.I. Plans are in place
First RIBSA National over 50’s Snooker Tournament of the season was held on Saturday the 9th of November in Newbridge CYMS. In the final former professional player Eugene Hughes beat Stephen Merrigan from Roadstone SC 3 frames to 1 in a high-class final. In the Semi-Finals Eugene Hughes beat Brian McPhee from Potters Drogheda 3-1
