Higgins Wins Challenge Tour Event 1

James Higgins from Galway won the first SBI Challenge tour event of the season. This event took place on Saturday 24th August in the SBI HQ in Carlow with the Semi Finals and Final being played on Sunday September 1st in the SBI HQ.

We had 36 entries for this event and by the end of the evening we were down to just 4 all looking to kick off the season in style with the first ranking title of the season. There were plenty of one outstanding matches which included Fionn Nagle beating the number 2 seed John Ahearn.

The Final

The Semi-final’s & Final of the SBI Challange Event No.1 took place in the SBI Academy, Ken Byrne v Eric Hassan played out their match on table 6 and it’s was the Number 1 seed who prevailed 3-0. The 2nd semi was played on table 8, between Richard Flynn & James Higgins. This match was a much closer contest and it was taken all the way to the last frame, but it was James in the end that won the decider to win it 3-2.

The final was a tense affair between both players and it too was a frame for frame encounter until they played down to another decider. In the end, it was James who made the most of his chances in the decider to win the final frame and close out the match 3-2. Brendan Murphy from Dublin took the high break with 57 break.

SBI would like to remind all players that all entries close at 1pm on the Thursday prior to each event and Event 2 is planned for the 12th / 13th October in the SBI HQ in Carlow.
