St. Conleths CYMS member Johnny Williams won the 12th running of the Anthony Quinn Memorial with a 4 frames to 1 victory over his clubmate Flan Hayes. Once again the tournament attracted entries from around the country with 63 players going to post on Friday night, a testament to the drawing power of this prestigious annual invitational.
In the semi finals Johnny defeated Benny O’Brien 3 frames to 0 while Flan overcame Gary Ryan 3 to 1. The final was a tense affair with both players giving up chances early on. After sharing the first two frames Johnny settled the better and ran out a worthy winner. Accepting the Cup and first prize Johnny thanked the CY for the exemplary manner in which the tournament was organized. He was particular in his praise for James McGowan for his updates on Facebook and the condition of the tables.
Stephen Walsh from Carrick-on-Suir won the high break prize with a break of 98.
