The Irish Under 16 Team & Under 19 Teams lost both their matches in the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds at the 2014 Home Internationals tonight. This morning the Under 19 team lost 4 frames to 8 to Northern Ireland and the Under 16 team lost to Wales 9 frames to 3 Wales.
The Under 16 team of Charlie Sweeney won 2-1, Fergal Quinn, Jason O Hagan lost 0-3 and Darragh Cusack lost 1-2 . The under 19 team of Shane Bates lost 1-2, Stephen Bateman lost 1-2, Dean Callanan won 2-1 and Sean Burns lost 0-3.
The Under 19 team also lost to England in the final session when Shane Bates won 2-1, Stephen Bateman lost 1-2, Sean Burns lost 1-2 and Dean Callanan lost 0-3 in a 4 frames to 8 result.
Team England won both in the Home Internationals in Under 16 and Under 19 events with losing a match.
As National Coach I was happy with the overall performance. I believe we need our junior players to compete more against higher level players in events in Ireland outside our Junior ranking events and without this experience I believe it is very difficult to win at this under age level.
