U/21 National Championship 2013

Josh Boileau was in scintillating form as he stormed through a high quality field to capture the only under age title he hadn’t won previously.  He had breaks of 51, 54, 63 as he beat his first opponent Adam Fitzgerald 3-1.  Adam had a 65 break in the frame he won.  The highest break in the first round was a terrific 104 by Daniel Dempsey in his 1-3 defeat by Aaron Tobin.
In the quarter finals the no. 1 seed Ryan Cronin lost out to a vastly improved Aaron Tobin  3-2.  David Cassidy beat Dylan Carey 3-0, Daniel O’Regan beat Andy McCloskey 3-1 and Josh Boileau overcame a strong challenge from Jason Devaney 3-2 with a fine break of 85 in the decider.  Aaron Tobin kept his form and his head to hold off David Cassidy’s tenacious challenge to reach the final 3-2.  In the other semi Josh Boileau had breaks of 53 and 64 as he got the better of Daniel O’Regan 3-0
The Final lived up to the pre-match expectation as both players were in top form and there was never more than one frame between them.  Aaron won the first frame, Josh won the 2nd and 3rd frames, Aaron took frames 4 and 5 to lead 3-2.  Josh levelled the match at 3-3 and took the title with a magnificent 90 break in the deciding frame.
High breaks ;  Daniel Dempsey 104,   Josh Boileau 90. 85, 64,  63 54, 53.
Adam Fitzgareld 65,   Jason Devaney 61
My thanks to Marian and the staff in the Ivy Rooms for looking after us so well, and my thanks also to Peter Dunne who refereed the final and to Breda Doherty and Peter who were on duty all day as referees.
Josh is hoping this was his last RIBSA event as he is going over to play in the Q school events and we wish him and the other Irish players Davy Morris, Dessie Sheehan and Kevin O’Leary the very best of luck
                                                        Ger Murray, tournament director.
