Snooker & Billiards Ireland held another Snooker in Schools project, on Friday the 3rd of May 2024 for students from Mount Sion CBS in Waterford. This grass roots development program main objective, is to help develop the interest of our sport within schools and to grow the game.
SBI who are the governing body of Snooker and Billiards in the Republic of Ireland were delighted to have the Mount Sion CBS students in the beautiful Kingfisher Sport Complex in Waterford to avail of PJ and his SBI team coaching skills.
Mini Star Tables
The four miniature Star snooker tables used today will provide more opportunities for SBI to introduce the game into schools, and at various events to help introduce new younger people to play the game while helping promote our sport going forward.
Learn the Basics
Mount Sion in Waterford were invited by Norriss SC in Waterford City to hold this promotion day to learn the basics of the game from the SBI National Snooker Coach PJ Nolan and his SBI Qualified Coaches Shane Gorman, Eddie Kennan and Wil Chester.
Gold Medals
The boys learnt how to develop a good Bridge Hand, Stance and Grip through demonstrations by snooker coaches. We also had a final with every group and the winners received a gold medal. Waterford’s leading players John Paul Kelly and Eddie Phelan were also on hand to give the players some tips to improve.
Fun Day
Both the boys and the teachers said they really enjoyed the session and learnt a lot and had fun doing it. The handouts with the technical information on the fundamentals and the info on local club Norriss SC will encourage the boys to play more in the future. They thanked the SBI team and Norriss Snooker Club for hosting the successful session.
Local Club
Eddie Kennan who had organised the day was also delighted with over 50 boys turning up today, and he hopes many boys will now come along to their youth academy which will start very soon in the club, and learn more about this beautiful sport.
