Snooker & Billiards Ireland held their final Snooker in Schools project for 2024, on Tuesday the 12th of November for students from Coláiste na Toirbhite – Presentation College in Athenry Galway.
This SBI grass roots development program main objective, is to help develop the interest of our sport within schools and to grow the game. SBI who are the governing body of Snooker and Billiards in the Republic of Ireland were delighted to have the Coláiste na Toirbhite in Athenry avail of SBI coaching skills.
Current SBI Junior International player Max Kennedy who won the National U-14 Championship is a current student in the Coláiste na Toirbhite – Presentation College. Max was on hand to showcase his talent and coach his fellow students.
Mini Star Tables
The four miniature Star snooker tables used today provide a great opportunity for SBI to introduce the game into schools, and help introduce new younger people to play the game.
Learn the Basics
Coláiste na Toirbhite, Principal Mr Cathal Moore who has himself has passion for snooker, Invited SBI to hold this promotion day to learn the basics of the game from the SBI National Snooker Coach PJ Nolan and SBI Qualified Coach Shane Gorman.
Mr Moore is hoping to get a mini table in the school in the future after seeing how much his students enjoyed the day.
Gold Medals
The boys and girls learnt how to develop a good Bridge Hand, Stance and Grip through demonstrations by snooker coaches. We also had a final with every group and the winners received gold medals.
Fun Day
Both the students and the teachers said they really enjoyed the session and learnt a lot and had fun doing it. The handouts with the technical information on the fundamentals and the info on local clubs in and around Galway was to encourage the students to play more in the future.
Snooker in Schools
