SBI Mental & Training Camp

Last weekend Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a special Training Camp with Sports Mind Coach Liam Moggan and our National Coach PJ Nolan in the SBI HQ on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd of July. The aim of the camp was to help prepare our players Mentally and Technically and Tactically for the 2023 HIBSF Home Internationals which will be held in the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds from the 4th – 11th of August.

In attendance this weekend were Rodney Goggins, Frank Sarsfield, Joe Shannon, Davy Hickey, Max Kennedy, Aaron Donnelly, Jmaes Darcy, Patsy Farrel, Simon Scott, Tommy Murphy, David Byrne, Janson Schmid, Ryan McGuirk, Brian McPhee, Ronan McGuirk and Ross Bulman who trained from 11am-4pm.

Highest breaks over the weekend

  • Team Break – 137 Ross Bulman
  • Team Break – 137 Rodney Goggins
  • Team Break – 80 Jenson Schmid
  • X Break – 135 Rodney Goggins
  • X Break – 86 Janson Schmid
  • X Break – 96 Rodney Goggins
  • Selby Break 104 – Ross Bulman
  • Selby Break 117 – Rodney Goggins

Day 1: Mental Game Session

On the Saturday Liam Moggan went through programs to help our players on the Mental Side of the game and PJ held sessions for all the players on Break-Building, Long Potting and Match-Play Drills.

All the players were very happy with the content. We also held Mini Match-Play events so Liam could watch our players in match-play mode. The whole day was hailed a big success. SBI would like to thank Liam for attending this canp for our Association and I know our players enjoyed the day.

Liam said ” I was delighted with the commitment from the players on the day. Liam talked about how players should prepare and analyse how they are going to get ready for matches in this HIBSF Championships. Writing down their own personal check-list of what they want, and how they will achieve it like Practice, Travel, Clothes, Equipment, Sleep, Nutrition and Mental Fitness is crucial.

This added to working on developing PJ’s good fundamentals in their Cueing, Approach, Stance and Delivery, creates good visualization to build up their self-confidence by staying in a relaxed state to perform at their best ”.

Day 2: Coaching Session

On the Sunday our National Coach PJ Nolan put the players through their paces with sessions on Break-Building, Safety, Long Potting and the players had their Technique checked. All the players were shown how they cue up to the ball and what kind of delivery they had on the big screen in the Academy.

The players were shown Sports Mental Videos on how to Control your mind and how important Visualization is to develop within their game. Ay the end of the day it was Rodney Goggins who won the Mini Break Challenge with 360pts, 2nd was Joe Shannon with 274pts and 3rd was Max Kennedy with 246pts.

Rodney also won the Match-play event with Joe Shannon in second place and Max Kennedy in third place.

SBI would like to thank all the players for attending this Camp and good luck in Leeds and play with Confidence and Pride.

Training Aids

The latest training aids were used in the camp like the Mini Domin Eye, Blade Cue, Master Doctor, Str8aim SA-1 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls to help players to get on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in their delivery.
