Snooker & Billiards Ireland National Coach PJ Nolan attended a junior coaching night on Friday 15th of November in the Nenagh Social & Snooker Club in Co Tipperary.
Tony Seymour and members of the Nenagh SC has developed a successful Junior Program in recent years with the aim to encourage more juniors to play our beautiful sport.
Junior Academy
Every week the club holds a junior academy night and this has helped to grow the interest within the town. This famous club have four current WPBSA / SBI Coaches within the club including the current Irish Amateur Champion Brendan O Donoghue who was on hand tonight to assist.
We had over 20 young boys and girls attending this session with PJ and the local coaches to learn some skills of the game.
Training Aids
The latest training aids were used to enhance the learning for the players, like the Blade Cue, Master Doctor, Str8aim G-5 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls to help to get him on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in his delivery.
The players were shown how to develop good fundamentals in the Bridge, Stance, Grip, Cue Action, Cue Ball Control and learn Basic Potting Skills. The advanced players were then shown how to control the cue ball and then try some specific practice routines.
PJ broke down the fundamentals into skills and awarded medals for the winner of each skill and they were many delighted faces in the club.
Coaching Skills
Tony Seymour said he was delighted with turn out and PJ coaching skills were excellent. The club academy will now follow his guidelines with the drills and we are hoping to bring many of our players to the National Developmental day in Carlow in December.
All the junior players received a medal to remember the session. SBI would like to thank Nenagh Social & Snooker Club and Coaches Tony Seymour, Brendan O Donoghue and Club Children Officer Nessa Kelly to making it a great night.
National Junior Developmental Day in Carlow
All the players tonight were invited to National Junior Snooker Developmental Day on Sunday the 29th of December in the SBI Academy in Carlow. Over the years SBI have held many National Junior Developmental days to help grow the game.
Stars of Future
Finally, a big well done to all the young players who attended the session and I am sure there are many stars of the future there tonight.
