On Sunday the 7th Sept, the 1st Senior’s over 40’s (Masters) tournament of the season was held in the SBI Academy. Due to the large entry, the event was finished on the 28th September.
A number of good matches in the tournament where noted. Leslie Carroll went all the way against former pro Michael Judge with the Dubliner winning it 3-2. Another fantastic match involved another former pro Anthony O Connor against Frank Sarsfield . Anthony rolled back the years in winning a tight match 3-2 against the Limerick man.
In the semi-finals, Shane Gorman faced Benny O Brien with the Kilkenny man coming out on top with a 3-1 win. In the other semi, Brendan O Donoghue prevailed over John O Sullivan 3-0.
In the final the 7-time National champion showed his class against in form Benny O Brien who played incredible snooker throughout the tournament. In the opener, O Donoghue won it using a 59 break. O Brien took the 2 & 3rd to lead 2-1. Back came O Donoghue who took the 4th frame to bring us into a decider. It was O Donoghue who prevailed on the colours in the end, to win it 3-2.
