The Anthony Quinn Memorial Tournament for 2015 was again hosted by St. Conleth’s CYMS in Newbridge on Friday 27th, Saturday 28thand Sunday 29th March. Anthony Quinn lives long in the memory of us all and it’s a credit to the clubs committee for all they do in organising this event to a very high standard.
Congrats to the winner Benny O Brien who was a very deserving winner who has supported this tournament for a number of years and now adds his name to the list of players who have been lucky enough to win this prestigious tournament.
After some fantastic and exciting matches on Friday and Saturday the 55 entries from all over Leinster and beyond were whittled down to the 8 players who qualified for the quarter finals on Sunday morning, Ernie McMullen, Stephen Walsh, John McBride, Andrew Yeates, Adam Nolan, Benny O’Brien, Charlie Sweeney and Keith Sheldreck.
The final was contested by Stephen Walsh from Carrick-on-Suir and Benny O’Brien from Kilkenny. It proved to be a one-sided affair with Stephen’s early form deserting him at the final hurdle. Benny took full advantage with his attacking style running out the winner by 4 frames to 0.
The Club would like to thank all those who helped make the Tournament the success it was for 2015 and look forward to many more years for this great and popular event.
Finally, it would be remiss not to mention the contributions of Tournament Director Jim Carrick ably assisted by James McGowan, without whom this event would not have been the success it was.
