Lorcán Ó Curraoin from Galway won the fifth Under 16 Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) Stars of the Future Tour event of the season. This event was the Brendan O Donoghue Cup which held in the Hot Shots SC in Galway on Saturday the 2nd of March.
The final
In the final No.2 seed Lorcán beat Aaron Donnelly from Newbridge in the final 3 frames to 1 in an excellent Final. This win moves Lorcán to number 1 but Aaron Donnelly had a great event when he beat the Number 1 seed Max Kennedy in round 1.
The TD was SBI Coach Paul Keighery from Ballinasloe and current National Champion Brendan O Donoghue was there to present the awards to all the winners on the day. Brendan was very impressed with the young talent on show.
Stars of the Future
This was the first event played in the new format of Knock out format and anyone loses a match was put into a plate event. There was an excellent entry of 10 young stars of the future playing on the day from Dublin, Newbridge, Youghal, Laois, Cavan and Galway.
Semi Finals
- Aaron Donnelly 3-0 James Stewart O Reilly
- William Shannon 0-3 Lorcán Ó Curraoin
William Shannon from Ballinasloe and James Stewart O Reilly from Dublin had outstanding wins to reach the Semi Finals and they should be very proud of their performance on the day.
Plate Event
SBI also held a Stars of the Future Plate event for all the players who lost a match. The standard was excellent with Max Kennedy who put the disapointment of losing his first match, powered his way to win the event in beating James Stewart O Reilly in a great final.
