Josh Boileau defeated Andrew Doherty 5-1 in the final of the first Junior 6 Red event of the summer. The Ivy Rooms keep competitive snooker going strong during the summer by running various Junior and Senior Opens and last weekend was no different as Josh Boileau took home first prize.
The event was played in group stages and all the youngsters (Under-17) got plenty of games but when it got down to the knockout stages things got interesting. Josh beat James Hurley in the Last 16 to set up a big match with fellow tournament favorite Daniel Dempsey. This time last year both Josh and Daniel were in Letterkenny competing in the World Under-21’s and will surely compete in the event again but this weekend Josh was the victor as he beat Daniel to make the semi finals.
The semi final win over Shane Mention saw him face Andrew Doherty who had seen of Charlie Sweeney in his semi final encounter. Andrew though was no match for the Irish Under-16 team captain and Josh ran out an easy 5-1 winner.
