14 year old Joe Shannon from Longford won the fifth Under 16 Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) Stars of the Future Tour event of the season. This event was the Irish Masters Cup which held in the Newbridge CYMS in Co Kiladre on Saturday the 6th of April.
Semi Finals
- Davy Hickey 3-0 Luke Mundy
- Joe Shannon 3-2 Aaron Donelly
In the final it was Davy Hickey from Youghal CYMS who was playing in his first national final. Davy had beaten No. 1 seed Lorcán Ó Curraoin earlier in the event. Davy beat star of the future Luke Mundy from Cavan CYMS in the first semi final 3-0.
In the other Semi Final Joe Shannon from Longford and Aaron Donnelly from Newbridge CYMS played out a great match 3-2 and it was Joe who would face the youghal man in the best of 5 final which was refereed by PJ Nolan.
The final
Joe opened with a 37 break and frame 2 and 3 saw the U-14 No.1 control the frames to win the match 3 frames to nil to take his 8th Title this season.
The TD was SBI National Coach PJ Nolan and he presented the awards to all the winners on the day. PJ was very impressed with the young talent on show and it promises to be an exciting National Under 16 Championships in a few weeks time.
Stars of the Future
This event played in the new format of Knock out format and anyone loses a match was put into a plate event. There was an excellent entry of 10 young stars of the future playing on the day from Dublin, Killarney, Newbridge, Youghal, Longford, Cavan and Galway.
Plate Event
SBI also held a Stars of the Future Plate event for all the players who lost a match. The standard was excellent with Oscar Ellision Gibbons, Cathal Horgan, Max Kennedy and James Stewart O Reilly all reaching the semi finals.

In the final it was Cathal Horgan who beat Max Kennedy 2 frames to nil to win the event in style.

Tournament Entry Fees
The cost of entry will be the following:
- Under 16 – €10.00
All players will need to register for the new season. SBI Registration runs from September to September each season.
Players will have to first pay SBI registration / membership or Renewal their membership and register for the new season. When you register, you will be asked to create a username and password. You will only be allowed to enter an event if log in and use this username and password.
You can reset your own password and there is also a support form on the system for members to complete and I.T. will follow up to resolve any major issues.

- Under 18’s – €16.00
Venues
We will bring the tour to 3 different venues and 3 events will be held in Carlow, other enues are Hot Shots in Galway, Crucible SC in Cork & Newbridge CYMS for this year. The national championships for both age groups will be held in Carlow.
Celtic Challenge, Home Internationals & Europeans
Each age group will still have their own ranking points to qualify for the International Team
Dress Code
- Dark Shoes (no runners)
- Dark one coloured trousers (no jeans)
- One coloured shirt buttoned at the wrist
- Waistcoats must be worn for all matches in National Championships.
- National Waistcoats are not permissible
- Bowties are also required for the SBI Championships for all matches.
