The sixth annual Timmy Murphy Memorial took place on Sunday 28th November in Celbridge Snooker Club with 8 players taking part and the event included a handicap system.
The quarter finals saw Aonghus McAnally overcome debutante Annette Newman who became the first woman to play in this special event. Liam Byrne, Jason Dowling and Brendan Devlin also had wins against Phil Martin, Joe Doheny and Robert McCrum respectively. Beaten quarter finalist Joe Doheny claimed the highest break of the day with 55.
The semi-finals saw Aonghus McAnally and Jason Dowling overturn handicap deficits to see Aonghus beat Liam Byrne by a 45 point margin and Jason winning a lot more comfortably against Brendan Devlin by 125 points by the time 2hrs time limit expired.
The final saw Jason defeat Aonghus by 184 points with a terrific display of billiards scoring heavily when on the table but Aonghus had good spells of his own but Jason seemed to raise his game when Aonghus looked to be getting back in the game. Jason also had a nice 52 break before running out a deserved winner for this year’s special event in memory of the popular man from Cork who’s family was in attendance to present the trophy to Jason and pass on their congratulations and to everyone who made the day’s event as special as ever.
