Leone Crowley from Cork made it the perfect double when he won the SBI National U-21 Championships on the 1st of May in the Snooker & Billiards Ireland HQ Academy of Excellence in Carlow. Leone won the U-18 National the previous day.
In the final
Leone beat Aaron Goldrick from Cavan CYMS in a great final 3 frames to 2 to win the title in style. Aaron went 2-0 up but back came Leone and a 54 break in the decider gave him the title. There was a big shock in the early rounds when Aaron Goldrick played outstanding snooker to beat defending Champion Ross Bulman 3-1 with a top break of 60.
Semi Finals
In the semi-finals we had two great matches with Aaron Goldrick from Cavan CYMS and Adam Halnon from St Pats Gorey. Aaron used his experience to win 3-1 in the other we had Aaron Smith from Potters SC against newly crowned U-18 Champion Leone Crowley from Cork but it was the corkman who won 3-0. Both semi-finals were very exciting.
High Breaks
The high break of the event went to Alex Currid with a fantastic 80 break, other top breaks were Ronan McGuirk 68, Aaron Smith 78, Aaron Goldrick 60, 46 and Leone Crowley 54, 44 . SBI would like to thank all the players and we hope to see you play in the National Championships this month.
International Selection
Following this National Championships, Aaron Goldrick from Cavan CYMS, Adam Halnon from St Pats Gorey , Aaron Smith from Potters SC and Leone Crowley from Cork.have qualified for the World IBSF U-21’s in Romania and the Home Internationals in August after reaching the semi-finals today.
SBI would like to wish the players good luck in the International events and we will be holding a training camp with PJ ahead of the International events in the SBI HQ in Carlow.
