The first event on the 2024-2025 SBI Amateur Snooker Tour was held over the weekend of 14th -15th September in the SBI HQ Carlow. Before play started Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) held a minute’s silence for Tanya Bourke’s mother and Kevin McMahon son who both passed away. RIP
We had 48 entries for this event, and after a fantastic display of snooker on day one we were down to the last 8. There was an early round exit for Greg Casey who came up against David Morris who was unseeded for this event.
Other notable performer was Noel Gleeson who knocked out Brendan o Brien and John Sutton en route to his first ever Amateur ranking final.
Quarter Finals
- Ryan Cronin 4-1 Jay Chopra
- David Morris 2-4 Leone Crowley
- Brendan O Brien 3-4 Noel Gleeson
- John Sutton 4-2 Andrew Doherty
Semi Finals
- Ryan Cronin 4-0 Leone Crowley
- Noel Gleeson 4-3 John Sutton
Final
- Ryan Cronin v Noel Gleeson
In the final the first two frames of the match were shared before Ryan took the next two to open up a two frame lead to lead 3-1. Ryan goes on to take frame 5 to win the first title of the new season.
Both players were fighting for the high break prize right to the last ball. Noel had a fantastic break of 88 in frame 2 of the final before Ryan hit back with a break of 90.
SBI would like to thank TD Shane Mason and referees Pat Mooney and Conor Doyle who helped out over the weekend.
We would also like to thank the players who played this event and look forward to seeing you all again in event 2.
Well done Ryan on a fantastic win!!!
