CELBRIDGE are Back-to-back All Ireland Snooker Club Champions

IT’S FINALS DAY in Killarney and Celbridge are Back-to-Back All Ireland Snooker Club Champions

6.40pm

Day three here at the All Ireland Snooker Club Champions at the Gleneagle Hotel and St Matthews opened their account this morning in their Quarter Final match defeating the Dublin League side from the Spawell Darcy McGees A by three matches to nil.

New Institute from Tipperary started well against QE1, but in the end the men from Belfast had enough to progress.

Play started at 9.30am with three matches started out of the three Quarter Finals

St Matthews 3 – 1 Darcy McGees A

Celbridge 3 – 0  Darcy McGees B

New Institute 2 – 3 QE1

Q Club Wicklow 3 – 0 Pot Black Tyrone.

Semi Final Draw was made at 12 Noon and it set up two fantastic matches as the Battle of Belfast between St Matthews and QE1 was one side of the draw and the defending champions Celbridge drew Q Club Wicklow who defeated Patrick Wallace’s Pot Black club from Cookstown Co. Tyrone.

The Semi-Finals are set for 1.30pm.

QE1 3 – 1 St Matthews

Celbridge 3 – 1 Q Club Wicklow

There is now a guaranteed North v South final here in Killarney as QE1 take on Celbridge.

QE1 in their Semi-Final were impressive to take the win, in the other semi final it was a much closer affair with Colm Gilchrist needing all the balls while behind by 42pts against Robert Murphy. Gilchrist dished up the remaining balls sending Celbridge into the second successful All Ireland Final.

The Final was a very one side’s affair with Martin McCrudden defeated Julian Logue 3- 0

TJ Dowling defeated Jordan Brown 3 – 1

Colin Gilchrist defeated Alistair Wilson 3 – 0

Nigel Power was 2 – 1 ahead on Gary Crawford

John Sutton was 2 – 1 ahead on Jonathan Nelson

So that’s it for another year, next on the RIBSA Calendar is the 5th Senior Ranking Event in Celbridge on 9th & 10th followed by the Irish Open Billiards in the Ivy Rooms in Carlow on the 16th and 17th of February.
