Desislava Bozhilova World No.1 Professional Snooker Referee from the World Snooker Tour held a Referee Seminar in the Snooker & Billiards Ireland Academy in Carlow on Wednesday and Thursday the 22nd and 23rd of July.
This seminar was organised by Snooker & Billiards Ireland, and it was a fantastic experience for our SBI referees to learn from the best in the game.

Desislava presented a pro triangle to our Chairman John Tobin Snooker & Billiards to remember her first visit to our HQ. John thanked her for coming over.
The Referee Secretary Neil Shanahan presented Desislava with a SBI Tie and thanked her for conducting the seminar in help our Qualified Referees.

The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Referees Association hold training Seminars throughout the season. Anyone wishing to become a snooker referee, should contact Neil Shanahan Tel: 086 3578481 – Email: nshanahan0@gmail.com.

A candidate must attend 6 hours’ tuition with a Tutor or Examiner. These 6 hours may be broken down to 3 X 2-hour seminars on Rules of Snooker, Positioning and Match Preparation.
When 6 hours are completed, The Candidate is given an oral exam and asked to referee a match minimum of 5 Frames. If the Candidate is successful, they are awarded a class 3 Snooker Referee and is also registered with EBSA (European Billiards and Snooker Association)
All Referees must be Garda vetted and have completed Safeguarding 1 Child Protection course.

Class 4 referee is awarded to referees who want to referee at local tournaments only and be examined for class 3 later if they want to become fully qualified SBI referees. All referees must have SBI Garda Vetting Clearance and attend a Child Protection Safeguarding course before attending a course or a tournament.
