Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a” Level 1 Coaching Ireland” Snooker Education Course in the SBI HQ Academy of Excellence in Carlow to qualify three new SBI Level 1 coaches from Fermoy, Newbridge and Cork on the 24th and 25th of May.
This level 1 course is for only for SBI members who have previously completed the Intro Level course. The course started at 10am and ran until 1pm. Lunch was from 1pm-2pm and restarted at 2pm till 6pm on both days.
New Coaches
Robbie O Sullivan from Fermoy, Ed Donnelly from Newbridge and Con Walsh from Cork attended this two-day Level 1 Course given by SBI National Coach PJ Nolan. This SBI course covers the coaching skills in helping the coaches identify what is needed to start training players to a level 1 standard.

Con said ‘’ I am delighted to become a SBI Level 1 Coach and PJ gave a great course with excellent content. Having the recourse with the course files will help me grow the game in the Cork region. I am already holding junior coaching in the Crucible SC and with hard work we can produce more young players to follow in the footsteps of Aaron Hill and Leone Crowley”.
Coaching Aids
During the course PJ presented various range of the latest Coaching Aids on the market to the coaches like the QLine, Mini Domin Eye, Academy Laser, Master Doctor, Str8aim G-5 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, EBSA Coaching Balls, 360 Cue and Blade Cue and explained in detail their importance.
Robbie said ‘’ I am very proud to become a SBI Level 1 Coach. PJ made everything easy to follow. Fermoy CYMS will be holding open days in the near future where we will hopefully develop some young players to play the game. I now have the right fundamentals and programs to coach them.
Child Protection
The Coaches also need to attend a sport partnership 3 hr basic awareness course organised by their local sports authority through Sport Ireland. CLICK HERE
Ed said ‘’ I am happy to become a SBI Level 1 Coach and help my Club Newbridge CYMS develop more young players to play the game. Newbridge CYMS will working alongside SBI in hosting a Schools day in Newbridge after the summer where we will promote the game and hopefully find new Junior members.

Rules
SBI International Referee Tutor Shane Mason gave a seminar on the Rules of the game where Foul & Miss, Penalty points, and other rules were explained and SBI would like to thank Shane for attending this Level 1 Coaching Course.
