SBI held the third Amateur event of the season on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December in the New Institute Snooker Club in Nenagh. We had 36 entries for this event and after a great first day of play we were down to the last 8 on the Sunday morning.
There were a couple of upsets in this event but the most notable shock of the tournament was Ross Bulman getting beaten in the first round by Brendan O Brien which opened up the final quarter of the draw.
Quarter Finals
- Ryan Cronin 3-4 Philip Browne
- James Fennessy 0-4 Rodney Goggins
- Brendan O Donoghue 4-0 Mark Tuite
- Aman Goel 3-4 Brendan O Brien
Semi Finals
- Philip Browne 3-4 Rodney Goggins
- Brendan O Donoghue 4-0 Brendan O Brien
In the first semi final match it was Philip Browne from Dublin who took the opening three frames including a magnificent 115 break in the second frame. Rodney came back to 3 all to force a decider. The decider was very tight but it’s Rodney who comes out on top.
In the second semi final it’s the local man Brendan O Donoghue who took an early lead taking the opening two frames. He took the next two frames to take the match 4 nil with breaks of 77,66 and 90.
Final
Rodney Goggins 2-4 Brendan O Donoghue
In the final it was Brendan who took an early lead taking the opening two frames before Rodney took frame three to put a frame on the board. Brendan took frame four to regain his two-frame lead and move one away from victory. Rodney takes frame five to pull back within one frame of Brendan to trail 3-2. Brendan takes frame six to take the title in his home club.
