8 Qualify for Re-Open Event 2 Finals

The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association (RIBSA) held their second Irish Re-Open event for Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th of September in the Ivy Rooms SC in Carlow. The event was hailed another big success by the players and officials.

The 32 players were all looking for qualify spot for the knock out stages which will be played on Saturday 26th of September. There were a number of dramatic matches involving our players with winning performances from John Sutton in group A when he achieved 3 wins from three to win his group while in group B Richie Flynn also secured three wins from his three matches to top his group.

In Group C Eric Pei had a fantastic event and won his group with hard victories while in Group D Stephen Bateman stayed unbeaten with 3 good wins to win his group in style.

On Day 2

Group E had a tense finish with three players having a chance to qualify after all three players had won one match and lost the other. In the end it was Michael Judge who qualified by head to head over victory over Alan O Connor. 13 year old Aaron Smith had a fantastic 2-0 victory over Michael Judge in the event.

Group F was the tightest group of the event with three players all finishing the same with two wins each. A play off was held and Tom O Driscoll played Dane Daly but it was Dane Daly who won it and beat up and coming junior Lewis Casserly in the final

Group G was controlled by the winner of event 1 last week David Morris who managed three victories in a row to win his group in style while in Group H it was Rodney Goggins who played good snooker to win the group and secure his place in the knock outs next Saturday.

Well done to all the players who entered and it is good to have events back up and running. RIBSA would like to thank the Ivy Rooms SC in Carlow for hosting the event and TD Shane Mason and Referee Conor Doyle.

The 8 Qualifiers are: John Sutton, Richie Flynn, Stephen Bateman, Eric Pei, Michael Judge, Dane Daly Mulpeter, David Morris and Rodney Goggins. RIBSA wish all the qualifiers good luck in the event on the 26th of September at 10am.

The Knock Out Draw will be made a 9.45am and Play starts at 10am with the four Q-Finals in the Ivy Rooms SC in Carlow. All the matches will be again live streamed via www.ribsa.ie.

The Guaranteed prize fund is: Winner €400.00, Runner Up €200.00, Semi – Finalists €100.00 each and Q-finalist will receive €50.00 each.

  • New addition to the On Line Streaming

All the matches in the event were streamed live via our RIBSA streaming service on www.ribsa.ie and can be watched soon on the RIBSA YouTube channel.

A new addition was added to our system for the new season, when a foul and a miss situation happens. the players can now see the ball position before the shot was played on the monitors. This will ensure the balls can be replaced like you see at the professional matches on TV.

  • Planned Test Event

RIBSA had planned this test event after the COVID-19 Crisis put a halt to our sport in March. This event was played within the strict RIBSA COVID-19 protocols. All the players had their temperature taken when they arrived at the venue.

Only 8 players were allowed in the venue plus the TD and a roaming Referee. Two nominated tables were used for each group. Four groups were played on the Saturday and four groups played on the Sunday. No Supporters or family were allowed in the venue. Each player had their own equipment on a designated side of the table. The Equipment was sterilised after each session.
