Snooker & Billiards Ireland held the first qualification stage of the 2025 Irish Amateur Snooker Championships in the SBI HQ Academy of Excellence in Carlow on Saturday / Sunday the 10th & 11th of May to find the 8 qualifiers.
After a great weekend of top class snooker we have our Q-Finalist and the line includes 3 former Champions and 5 who would love to win their first National Amateur Title.
The QFinal line up is Ryan Cronin v Noel Gleeson – Philip Browne v Brendan O Donoghue – Ross Bulman v John Torpey – Davy Morris v Rodney Goggins
The current high break stands at 133 by Davy Morris and Ross Bulman. The QFinals will be played at 10am on Saturday with the semi-finals at 6pm. The final will be played on the Sunday.
2025 Prize Fund
SBI announced that a €2,000 prize fund will be up for grabs for this year’s National Championship.

This championship is open to all ages, genders and abilities to find the 2025 Irish Amateur Champion. The winner will follow in the footsteps of all our great players throughout the years. The defending Champion, Brendan O Donoghue from Nenagh who won his seventh title in 2024.
Qualifying Weekend
The whole event will be played over the Saturday and the Sunday to qualify the 8 players for the SBI Finals weekend.
* Players cannot choose to play a Saturday or Sunday as the full event is played throughout the weekend with match times displayed on the web site *
Entry Fees – The cost of entry will be the following:
- €35.00 for 21 and over
- €10.00 for players under 21 and Lady players
Only SBI members can enter and play in SBI tournaments. One-day Registration for non-members is available at €10.00 if you are not already a SBI member.
2025 Format
All qualifying matches are the best of 7 frames
- Q-Final – Saturday – 10am
- Semi Final – Saturday 5pm
- Final – Sunday – 10am (6frames) & restart at 2pm
The finals weekend will feature the last 16 round to the final plus the National Billiards and Junior Finals on the weekend of 17th – 18th May in the SBI HQ Academy of Excellence in Carlow.
Presentations
Presentations of all the SBI National Championships that have been played and Award winners will also be made over the weekend. All winners will be presented with their trophies and have an official photoshoot after the final of the Amateur Snooker Championships in the HQ.

Dress Code
The dress code for the 2025 SBI National Championship is full dress:
- NO POLO SHIRTS
- Dark Shoes (no runners)
- Dark one coloured trousers (no jeans)
- One coloured shirt buttoned at the wrist and waistcoat.
- Waistcoats must be worn for all matches.
- National Waistcoats are not permissible
- Bowties are also required for the SBI Championships weekend matches.
- PLEASE NOTE official SBI Polo Shirt not allowed for any National Championships
