U-18 Snooker Season begins in Style

The first RIBSA events of the Under 18 Irish Snooker season were held today the 16th of September in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow

The first round of matches in the International Tour were held along with the Open tour.  This new International tour sees our top 10 ranked Irish juniors playing against each other in an International system similar to what is used in International events. Three rounds of Matches were held on today with four frames being played in all matches.

  • Unbeaten Performances on Day 1

Ross Bulman, Aaron Hill, Ronan Whyte and Mark Gleeson were in fantastic form all day to win all of their twelve frames losing none. The Highest break on Day 1 was a fantastic 97 break by Aaron Hill.

After three International tour events, the bottom three players will be relegated to the open tour while the top 3 on the Open Tour are promoted to the International Tour after Christmas.

RIBSA Under 18 Open won by O Reilly

The first RIBSA under 18 Open Snooker event of the season was won by Keith O Reilly Newbridge CYMS in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow today which featured a number of very young talented players.

National Coach PJ Nolan was the Tournament Director for both events and he was delighted with the amount of talent on show. ‘’ He said the Open Tour is designed to encourage more young players into the sport and allow them to develop while having our top juniors playing against each other to qualifying for the 2017 European U-18 Championships. Having a 14 year old and a 11 year old in the Open final today bodes well for the coming season of junior snooker in Ireland ’’

  • Semi Finals

In the first Semi-final round, it was the current Irish U-12 Champion Leone Crowley from Shooters SC against Patrick Daly from QClub Killarney and it was the Corkman who came out the winner 3 frames to 1 in a great match.

In the other Semi – Final it was the current Irish U-14 Champion Ryan McGuirk from R&R SC playing Keith O Reilly from Newbridge CYMS and it was Keith who won it on a final black in a superb match after Ryan had led 2-0.

  • The Open Final

The Final featured 11 year old Leone Crowley from Cork and 14 year old Keith O Reilly from Newbridge CYMS in the best of 5 frames final. In frame 1 it was the Kildare man who went 1-0 up. Frame 2 was very close but Keith potted superbly to go 2-0 up. In the third frame it was again close with 47 points each on the Green but it was Keith who potted a fantastic long black to win his first ever RIBSA tournament 3 frames to nil.
