Snooker in Schools – St Ciarans CS Kells

Snooker & Billiards Ireland held their first Snooker in Schools project of 2025 in St Ciarans Community School in Kells, County Meath on Tuesday the 14th of January.

This SBI grass roots development program main objective, is to help develop the interest of our sport within schools and to grow the game. SBI who are the governing body of Snooker and Billiards in the Republic of Ireland were delighted to be intvited to give a workshop for the St Ciarans CS students.

Three Local Clubs

County Meath boosts of three leading clubs in the local area with:

  • Snooker School – Eureka House, Kells Co Meath A82Dx47
  • St. Patrick’s Trim SC Patricks Street, Trim, Co. Meath C15DV27
  • J Mac’s Pool Club, Metges Lane, Navan, Co. Meath C15 NDP3.#

Learn the Basics

Peter Carry from St Ciarans CS invited SBI to hold this promotion day to learn the basics of the game from our SBI National Snooker Coach PJ Nolan and SBI Qualified Coaches Shane Gorman and John Tobin plus Snooker School in Kells owner David Conity.

Mini Star Tables

The four miniature Star snooker tables used today provide SBI a great opportunity to introduce the game into schools, and help new younger people to play the game.

Gold Medals

The boys and girls learnt how to develop a good Bridge Hand, Stance and Grip through demonstrations by snooker coaches. We also had a final with every group and the winners received gold medals.

Fun Day

Both the students and the teachers said they really enjoyed the session and learnt a lot and had fun doing it. The handouts with the technical information on the fundamentals and the info on local clubs in Kells and around Co Meath was to encourage the students to play more in the future.

Snooker in Schools

SBI hope to grow our Snooker in Schools project more in 2025. A number of schools are already lined for the new season.  If you know any school who would like to become part of our Snooker in Schools project next season they should email info@sbireland.ie

After the Schools day, David Conity invited us to his club in Kells where they have 4 snooker and 2 pool tables. This club is a SBI registered club and hopes to have a SBI coach in the future. With the amount of talent on show today. Kells could have a star of the future soon.

SBI Thank you

SBI would like to thank Shane Gorman, John Tobin and David Conity for making our snooker in schools in Kells a big success today. Finally, a huge thank you to all the students, teachers from St Ciarans CS for making it a very memorable day for SBI.

Well Done to everyone!!!!
