Snooker & Billiards Ireland launched their Snooker in Schools project, on Tuesday the 27th of February 2024 in the CBS Primary and Secondary School in Nenagh. This grass roots development program main objective, is to help develop the interest of our sport within schools and to grow the game.
SBI who are the governing body of Snooker and Billiards in the Republic of Ireland were delighted to have Nenagh CBS as the first School to avail of PJ and his SBI team coaching skills.
Mini Star Tables
The four miniature Star snooker tables used today, are an excellent addition to the National Governing Body and will provide opportunities for coaching and an introduction to the game into schools, and at various events to help introduce new younger people to the game while helping promote the game going forward.
Learn the Basics
CBS Primary & Secondary Schools in Nenagh were invited by the New Institute Snooker Club Chairman Tony Seymour, to hold this promotion day in the CBS schools to learn the basics of the game from the SBI National Snooker Coach PJ Nolan and his SBI Coaches Tony Seymour, Shane Gorman, Paudie Kelly and Martin Kelly.
Gold Medals
The boys learnt how to develop a good Bridge Hand, Stance and Grip through demonstrations by snooker coaches. We also had a final with every group and the winners received a gold medal which was presented by our six-time National Snooker Champion Brendan O Donoghue who also attended to encourage the boys.
Fun Day
Both Schools said the boys really enjoyed the session and learnt a lot and had fun doing it. The handouts with the technical information on the fundamentals and on the info on local club will encourage the boys to play more in the future. They thanked the SBI team and New Institute Snooker Club for hosting the successful session.
Local Club
Tony Seymour from the New Institute SC who had organised the day was also delighted, and he hopes many boys will now come along to their youth academy every Friday night in the club, and learn more about this beautiful sport.
Snooker in Schools
SBI hope the Snooker in Schools project will help to grow the game Nationwide and a number of other schools are lined over the next few months. If you know any other school who would like to become part of our Snooker in Schools project they should email info@sbireland.ie
