Snooker & Billiards Ireland are proud to announce that the World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) will head to Ireland for the first time from 28-30 July 2023 to hold the Irish Open.
This weekend of events will be held at the Snooker and Billiards Ireland (SBI) HQ in Carlow, the Irish Open will carry full-ranking status and is open to players from all eight disability classification groups.
The SBI HQ is a fully accessible venue which features eight tables (four Xingpai, four Rasson) and professional standard lighting throughout.
WDBS OPEN DAY
As with regular UK-based WDBS tournaments, there will be an Open Day led by WPBSA Snooker Coach Steve Rutter held on Friday 28 July from approximately 10:00am until 1:30pm.
With eight tables available, it is anticipated that there will be limited opportunities for practice prior to the start of the tournament, with priority to be given to local disability groups invited to take part in the day.
The weekend will be fully supported by SBI who are the national governing body for snooker and billiards in Ireland. Four-time WDBS Group 7 champion Dylan Rees who is also SBI Chairman has been instrumental in the organisation and staging of the event.
SBI National SBI Disability Day
Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a National Disability Event on Sunday the 25th of June in the SBI Academy of Excellence in Carlow
Disability National Coach Dylan Rees from Dungarvan hosted the event. This was preparation for the upcoming WDBS Irish Open Championship.
The aims of the day was to introduce all Irish players that play with a disability or impairment to our great game of Snooker. All abilities and levels are welcome to attend this magical day in the Snooker & Billiards Ireland Academy of Excellence in Carlow.
