The first SBI Super Senior tournament of the season took place on Sunday, September 14 at Newbridge CYMS. Play got underway at 10am with an entry of 27 players – the biggest entry ever in the Super Senior’s.
Unfortunately, 5 players had to withdraw from the event, leaving 22 to compete. However, with 6 new players joining the Super Senior ranks this year, a great day’s snooker was anticipated.
At the semi-final stage, last year’s number 1, Frank Sarsfield, had a hard-fought 3–2 win over Tommy Murphy. The second semi-final, however, could not take place due to the late finish of the quarter-final, and will be played on a date to be confirmed, with the final to follow.
Tournament Director Tony Thorpe thanked the Newbridge club for hosting the event and paid tribute to Ed Donnelly for his help in preparing the tables. As usual, the venue was in pristine condition.
