Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a one-day Intro Level Snooker Coaching Education Course to qualify six new SBI Coaches in the SBI Academy of Excellence in Carlow on Saturday the 9th of March. This course was approved by Sport Ireland Coaching who governs Coaching in the Republic of Ireland.
The Intro Level Course is designed for SBI members who want to start coaching within their local clubs. The course was given by our WPBSA & SBI National Coach PJ Nolan. The six new coaches are Dave Mcdermott from Errill SC, Nigel Cooke from Thurles, Will Chester from Norris SC Waterford, TJ O’ Shea from Errill SC, Dean Washington from Potters SC Drogheda and Eddie Keenan from Norris SC Waterford.
- Course Syllabus
The course covered everything in the approved SBI coaching syllabus featuring Playing Techniques, Role of the Coach, Training Routines plus the Rules of the Game. SBI National Coach PJ Nolan congratulated all coaches on beginning their coaching process and SBI feel having six more qualified coaches is so important in helping grow the game all around Ireland.
- Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare Awareness Course
All six will now need to attend a sport partnership 3hr Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course in their own area. These courses are organised by their local sports authority through the Sports Council. CLICK HERE
New SBI Coaches
All six coaches will also need to complete the SBI Garda vetting before being presented with his Intro Level Accreditation SBI Certificates later in the year. PJ said it was great to have six new coaches joing our SBI coaching Team.
All coaches were delighted with the content and they received the course files to study more on a USB hard drive.
Training Aids
The latest training aids were shown to the coaches like the Mini Domin Eye, Master Doctor, Str8aim SA-1 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls. Each aid is to help players to get on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in their delivery.

- Course Costs
The course cost was €25.00. All the coaches must also be paid members of Snooker & Billiards Ireland for the season with the cost of €25.00. Snooker & Billiards Ireland would like to thank all the coaches for attending this successful course and we wish them good luck with their coaching.
