The first SBI Amateur event of the season took place over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th September where it was Ryan Cronin from Cork was the champion.
We had 56 entries for this event and by the end of Saturday we had 8 players left. There were a number of cracking matches in this event including an early meeting of Ross Bulman and Michael Judge. Another early round match included John Farrell and David Morris.
Sunday morning saw the start of the Quarter Finals where seven out the seeds made it through. The line-up was as follows
Quarter Finals
- Ross Bulman 4-2 Mark Tuite
- Rodney Goggins 4-0 Stephen Bateman
- Brendan O Donoghue 4-0 Philip Browne
- Greg Casey 1-4 Ryan Cronin
The two semis were fantastic with both semi-final matches going the distance with Ross Bulman and Ryan Cronin coming out on top.
Semi Finals
- Ross Bulman 4-3 Rodney Goggins
- Brendan O Donoghue 3-4 Ryan Cronin
Final
- Ryan Cronin 4-2 Ross Bulman
The final was a very close encounter with the match going all the way to the decide. The deciding frame was a thriller with Ross taking an early advantage leaving Ryan needing a snooker on the last red.
