New level 1 RIBSA Coach Qualifies

The latest RIBSA ”Level 1 Coaching Ireland ” Snooker Education Course was held in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow on the 6th & 7th of July and qualified Colm McDonagh from Sligo.

The two-day Level 1 Course was given by National Coach PJ Nolan on the (Role of Coaches + Playing Techniques + Rules of the Game). This training course is for ONLY for RIBSA members who have previously completed the RIBSA Intro Level course.

Course Costs

The course cost was €30.00 including soup and sandwich. All the coaches must be paid up members of the Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association for the 2019 / 2020 season and membership forms were available on the day at €15.00.

Colm said ‘’ I am delighted to become a RIBSA Level 1 Coach and PJ gave a great course with excellent content. Having the recourse of the CD with the course files will help me grow the game in the Sligo and Connacht region to hopefully produce more young players onto the International teams in the future”.

Course Syllabus

This RIBSA course covers the coaching skills in helping the coaches identify what is needed to start training players to a level 1 standard. The course started at 10am and ran until 1pm. Lunch was from 1pm-2pm and Restarted at 2pm till 6pm on each day.

Well Done

PJ said ‘’ Colm is a very experienced snooker player in the Sligo and Connacht area and I am delighted to see him so focused on becoming a RIBSA level 1 coach. He is also a Swim Ireland Coach and he will be a great addition to our RIBSA Snooker Coaching Team.

Child Protection

All the RIBSA Coaches also need to attend a sport partnership 3 hr basic awareness course and attend the ISC Children’s Officer Course that are organised by their local sports authority through the Irish Sports Council. Finally, the RIBSA coaches also need to be Garda vetted before being presented with the Level 1 Accreditation Certificate later in the season.

RIBSA Team of Coaches

At present RIBSA have 84 Intro Level qualified coaches approved by Coaching Ireland in Limerick University and we now have 19 Level One Coaches.
