On the 15th of March SBI played our short format championship down to the final. Where Wayne Doyle will face off against Aidan Murray at finals weekend.
First round matches seen wins for Lloyd myers against our youngest and improving player Ciaran Doyle, Brendan devlin had a comfortable win over Annette Newman, the last 2 first round matches were a lot closer with Darren Ryan coming from 1 game down to beat Robert mc Crum 3-1, the closest game of the round was when John Downey came from 2-1 down to have a good win agaisnt Joe Doheny .
The top 4 seeds came in at the next round and all 4 came through there matches without dropping a game, Wayne Doyle beating Darren Ryan with a top break of 66, Larry drennan beating Brendan devlin , Eugene Hughes having a solid 3-0 win over Lloyd myers and Aidan Murray the last man to make his way into the semi finals with a 3-0 win over John Downey,
Into the semifinals and Wayne started off the strongest in the first semi finals going 2 games to nil up including a break of 70unf . Larry not giving up and playing steady took the next game, but all was a little too late as Wayne ran out the final game without any fuss to reach the final.
In the second semi finals Eugene started the stronger taking the first game with a break of 59unf , the match became a bit scrappy after that with both players missing chances to take hold of the game but Aidan steady himself and went 2-1 up before Eugene made a come back winning the next game comfortably to bring it into a deciding game, Aidan was always in command of the final game but a late break of 45 by Eugene brought him right back into the match, with both in striking distance of the 100 points needed after a safety battle it was Aidan that made the decisive break to reach the final.
