Aidan Murray won his fourth national billiards 150up title on Sunday 28th November in Celbridge Snooker Club adding to the tiltes he won in 2013, 2017 and 2018. The 150up championship was played the previous Sunday on the 21st November and the final the following Sunday which Aidan fought off the stern challenge of Joe Doheny.
8 players took part and the standard of play was very high with plenty of breaks and some hard fought battles. Aidan Murray saw off Robert McCrum impressively with breaks of 56, 117 and 67 to win 3-0 as did Jason Dowling against John Kehoe with breaks of two 64s and 66 to meet Aidan in the semi-final.
Joe Doheny overcame the challenge of Anthony O’Flaherty 3-1 and then beat Lloyd Myers who got a walkover from Aonghus McAnally and Joe also won 3-1. Aidan proved too strong for the much improved Jason Dowling with breaks of 116 and 85 to win 3-0 and book his place in the final against Joe Doheny for the following Sunday.
Aidan took his fourth national billiards 150up title with a 4-0 win but 3 of the 4 games were closely fought and could have gone either way as Joe played a big part in his first ever national senior billiards final but Aidan came up with the goods at crucial moments and finished up as the worthy winner and champion as he now focuses to complete the double when he takes on Larry Drennan in the National Senior Billiards Long-up Championship final at the new Snooker Billiards Ireland HQ in Carlow on Sunday 19th December at 10am.
