Murray wins Billiards Event 3

Celbridge Snooker Club was once more the setting for the 3rd Billiards Ranking Event of the season that took place on Sunday 17th November which saw 11 players taking part. The format was 90 minutes and ended with the reigning National Long-up Champion Aidan Murray deservedly win the event playing solid billiards throughout the day.

The show started at 10am with eventual winner Aidan taking victory against Brendan Devlin with a 78 break for good measure. In other preliminary rounds Jason Dowling defeated Ciaran Doyle while Joe Doheny had a comfortable win over Robert McCrum and Larry Drennan had 95 points to spare in his success against an improved John Downey from Dungarvan.

The quarter final stage witnessed John Kehoe soundly defeat Aonghus McAnally while Aidan Murray saw off Jason Dowling as did Joe Doheny against Larry Drennan and Wayne Doyle beat Lloyd Myers playing strong billiards that included the highest break of the day of 147 to go along with breaks of 51, 58 and 57.

The semi finals turned out to be very one sided affairs with Aidan Murray enjoying a 251 points win against John Kehoe that included breaks of 91 and 98 unfinished to make his way into the final once more with Wayne Doyle who was just as devastating when on the table against Joe Doheny with a 300 plus winning margin that featured breaks of 96, 72 and 59.

The final witnessed Aidan get off to a flying start with breaks of 51 and 71 in the first 45 minutes of play and built up a close 200 points lead, however with Wayne against the ropes and in true champion form he gradually got back in the game with a crucial break of 96 with around 40 minutes left on the clock and around 50 points behind was as close Wayne was to get.

Aidan gathered himself and scored 20 plus breaks to keep Wayne at arms length and deservedly end the game as the winner of the 3rd Billiards Ranking Event of the season on a scoreline of 318-228.

John Downey won the plate final against Brendan Devlin after losing his first round match to Larry Drennan. Thanks to Phil Martin and Celbridge Snooker Club for hosting another thrilling event and John Kehoe as Tournament Director.
