This year’s SBI over 55’s National Championships were played on Sunday November 21st in St. Conleth’s CYMS in Newbridge. Play commenced at 12 pm with 13 players participating. In his opening comments TD Tony Thorpe remarked that this event is the very first Super Senior Tournament to be held in R.O.I. Plans are in place to open up the Super Seniors next year to include 3 ranking events and a national championship.
In the first semi-final Stephen Merrigan played Tommy Murphy. Stephen raced into a 2 – 0 lead but back came Tommy to level and take the match to a decider. In the final frame it looked like Tommy all the way, but Stephen hung in and took the match on the final black to claim his place in the decider.
The second Semi featured and 2nd seed Jim Carrick and Joe McKeever. Again, the match went all the way with Joe getting over the line on a 3 frames to 2 score line.
The final was a very open affair with both players going for their shots. Having lost the first frame Joe took control and ran out a very worthy winner by 3 frames to 1. Both players dedicated the final to the memory of their lifelong friend Eddie Ingle who passed away recently.
Tournament Director Tony Thorpe thanked Jim Carrick and his committee for hosting the event and for the excellent playing conditions. SBI look forward to many more tournaments in Newbridge.

Entry Fee
The entry fee for all Super Senior over 55 events is set at €25.00. All players must be Registered as you can only enter if you are a member. Yearly and one event registration is available on the online SBI system.
Format
Depending on the amount of entries, this event will be played over two days and the TD will be Tony Thorpe. All matches will be the best of 5 frames including the final.

All players must enter on line for all SBI events via the new on line payment system and it promises to be an exciting Championship.
Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner up and this event will be played out over the weekend to crown the Champion. All trophies and awards will be presented during Senior Championship Finals weekend in December 2021.
Dress Code
This Event will be played in full dress, Pants, Long Sleeve Short, Waistcoat and Shoes. Bow-Ties are required for the final.
Entering On Line
For all SBI events the players will have to be a member and be registered. When you registered, you created a username and password, you must do this before you will be allowed in to enter an event. Any issues with entering they should email info@sbireland.ie.
Memberships
Membership can be purchased on line, over 21 yrs old membership is €17.00. If you would just like to buy a one day/event membership you can avail of this for €7.00 but please remember this will expire 2 days after the event.
Seeds
The seeds for this event will be based on the current Over 55 SBI ranking before COV-19 put a halt to the season. The TD for the Championships will be Tony Thorpe.
Closing Date
The closing date for this Championships will be the Friday before the tournament 1pm. The draw will be done through the new on line system which makes the draw automatically on the web site.
