The 2014 Finbarr Ruane Snr Memorial Cup in honour of the two term president of RIBSA and long time patron of Irish and world Amateur snooker took place in CrossGuns yesterday and it was Martin McCrudden who came through a top field of 32 players to claim the Memorial Cup.
Joining McCrudden in a strong field was Robbie Murphy, Michael Judge, John Sutton, Rodney Goggins, TJ Dowling and recent European U21 runner up Josh Boileau.
The standard of snooker throughout the day was top class with many fine individual performances on show however it was McCrudden despite having to win three deciding frame matches en route to the final who prevailed. With the Irish Amateur Championships only weeks away McCrudden must surely be a strong favourite to win the title on the form he showed yesterday.
Joe Delaney making a welcome return to competitive snooker made the highest break of the day a 105 in his first round match against Craig Savage.
I would like to thank all those who competed in helping to make the tournament a huge success, the tournament was played in agreat atmosphere and i’m sure Fin Snr would have enjoyed it. In only it’s second year the Memorial Cup has confirmed it’s status as a top invitation event and a firm favourite amongst the players and i look forward to hosting the competition and welcoming you all back to CrossGuns angain next year.
