McCrudden clinches Irish Open Title

The Second Senior Ranking Event on the new RIBSA Snooker Season was played in Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow and the standard of play was very high over the weekend This event was won by Martin McCrudden from Celbridge who won the RIBSA IRISH OPEN title beating David Hogan from the New Institute in Nenagh in a superb final 5 frames to 2.

The win moves Martin into the top 10 on the rankings and it promises to be a great fight for the number 1 spot again this season with a number of players playing some great snooker.

Frame Scores

Martin McCrudden 5-2 David Hogan (65 – 58, – 0 – 76 (76), 36 – 64, 73 – 62, 63 – 41, 64 – 27, 70- 24)

Semi Finals

In the first Semi Final David Hogan beat Vincent Muldoon from Maynooth SC 4 frames to 1 in a high quality match. The other semi final saw Martin McCrudden beat Robert Redmond from the Griffith Club 4 frames to 1 to play David in the final.

The New Open Draw

Again the new open draw system created a number of high quality matches in the last 64 Robert Murphy lost to David Hogan and Colm Gilcreest beat John Sutton. In the last 32 round saw Clinton Franey beat Mario Fernandez 3-0, Alan Matic had a great event with victories over Stephen Bateman , Johnny Friel and Johnny Williams, John Torpey beat Brendan O’Donoghue.

Highest Break

The Highest break prize went to David Hogan with a fantastic 143 break in his last 64 match against Robert Murphy. Other high breaks in the event were 118 by David Hogan, 110 by Vincent Muldoon, 104 by Tom O Driscoll from Waterford SC

RIBSA would like to thank Jim & Marion Leacy from The Ivy Snooker Club for the excellent facilities and all their help over the weekend. Finally I would like to thank all the players for a great snooker display and I look forward to seeing them again in Event 3 in Carlow on the 20th and 21st of November.
