The first Super Seniors Event of the 2023/24 season took place in the wonderful SBI academy in sunny Carlow on Sunday the 17th of September 2023.
John McBride won the event beating Nicky Ryan 3-1 in the final.
First up for John was a new pup on the scene, Tony Delaney, with John prevailing 3-1. Next up for John was Kevin McConville and John won by the same score line. In the semi-final for John was Tommy Murphy, who had knocked out our National Champion Patsy Farrell in the previous round 3-1. John beat Tommy 3-1. Ronnie would have had trouble dealing with John on the day, Ronnie Wood that is.
Along Nicky Ryan’s route to the final, Nicky beat Jim Carrick first up 3-1, Paul Arnold 3-2 in the next round and then beat Brendan Thomas 3-0 in the semi-final playing some very impressive Snooker. Nicky played some really good Snooker and got better and better throughout the day.
We also welcomed three new pups into the Super Seniors, Tony Delaney, as mentioned above, John McCarthy & Ger Lovett. You’re very welcome lads and it’s great to have you all playing.
As ever, the matches played on the day were played, hard, fair & very sporting on the table, and extremely pleasant and enjoyable off the table.
Finally, and last but not least, a quick shout out to our Tournament Director for the day, being Tony Thorpe. Tony, thanks very much for the work that you do and the effort that you put in for making the day run so smoothly. Us players really do appreciate your time, effort and work, thank you Tony.
The next Super Seniors event takes place on Sunday the 5th of November in the always welcoming CYMS club in Newbridge, Co. Kildare. We hope to see you all there.

Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) would like to announce details of the SBI Super Seniors (Over 55’s) Tour for the coming season. Players should be aware that all entries are now through the on line system and you have to enter before the closing date.
You can now enter and pay for all the events for the season at the same time by clicking HERE and choosing which events you want to enter.

This SBI Super Seniors (Over 55’s) Tour is open to players over 55 years of age of any gender and ability. Six ranking events are planned and this is followed with a National Championship.
The defending Super Seniors Champion will be Patsy Farrell who won the title in 2023

Enter Via – On-Line Payment System
Players will have to first pay SBI registration / membership or Renewal their membership and register for the new season. When you register, you will be asked to create a username and password. You will only be allowed to enter an event if log in and use this username and password.
You can reset your own password and there is also a support form on the system for members to complete and I.T. will follow up to resolve any major issues.
Prize Fund
Players are asked to note that the prize fund for all SBI tournaments for the coming season will be a guaranteed 70% of the entry fee pot with 30% of the pot going towards officiating and club hosting costs. SBI will top up prize funds when required on a case-by-case basis.
Closing Dates
The closing date for all SBI events will 1pm on the Thursday before the event. The Draw will be done automatically on the system with match times and displayed on the web site.
Tournament Entry Fees
Super Seniors Over 55’s– €25.00
All players will need to register for the new season. SBI Registration runs from September to September each season.
SBI Registration

- One Day/Event – €10.00
Only SBI members can access the online system and enter to play in SBI tournaments but one-day registration is available at €10.00 if you are not already a SBI members, remember this expires 24hrs after the event.
Format
- All matches are the best of 5 frames
Dress Code
- SBI POLO SHIRTS ARE ALLOWED
- Dark Shoes (no runners)
- Dark one coloured trousers (no jeans)
- One coloured shirt buttoned at the wrist
- Waistcoats must be worn for all matches in the National Championships.
- National Waistcoats are not permissible
- Bowties are also required for the SBI Championships for all matches.
