Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) held the 2024 National Under 16 Snooker Championships Final in the SBI HQ in Carlow on Saturday the 18th of May and it was Joe Shannon from Longford who won the title in beating Lorcán Ó Curraoin from Galway 3 frames to nil.
On the 27th of April we started the U-16 Championship with young talented players from Longford, Laois, Cork, Galway, Dublin, Edenderry and Newbridge in action and the standard was excellent. Joe also wins the High Break trophy in the event.
The final was played during SBI Finals weekend on May 18th and featured the No.1 seed Joe Shannon from Longford and No.2 seed Lorcán Ó Curraoin from Galway after both qualified in style. Both players are in top form. Joe now finishes No.1 in the rankings for the 2024 season.
Semi Finals
In the Semi Finals Joe had a great win over Max Kennedy from Galway 3-1 while Lorcain beat Davy Hickey from Youghal 3-1 in the other semi finals. The high break went to Joe Shannon with a 37 break.
This event was played in knock out with best of 5 frames format and the TD on the day was PJ Nolan and Referee was Conor Doyle.
