Jamie McCarthy from Cork won his maiden Snooker & Billiards Ireland junior ranking title when he won the (SBI) 18’s Ranking event one on Saturday the 26th October in the SBI HQ Carlow.
In the final Jamie beat Lorcain O Curraoin from Galway in a great final 3 frames to 2. Jamie led 2-0 but Lorcain fought back to level at 2-2 before Jamie won the decider to delight his family and friends in the HQ.
PJ Nolan’s 147academy is the title sponsor for all the Junior Tours this season and it was a fantastic day of Junior snooker with all the stars playing great snooker and gaining National experience on the table.
Semi Finals
In the semi finals, the No.1 seed Joe Shannon from Longford played Jamie McCarthy from Crucible SC in a high quality match while Lorcain O Curraoin from Galway played Oscar Ellision Gibbons from Dublin in another great match.
After two good battles it was Jamie McCarthy who won 3-0 to cause a big upset in semi 1 while Lorcain O Curraoin beat Oscar Ellision Gibbons 3-o in semi 2.
The Final
After a very long day the final was played with Jamie McCarthy and Lorcain O Curraoin who qualified for this great final. In the final it was Jamie McCarthy who won the final and moves into Number 1 on the rankings and ahead of the pack in the race to qualify for the European Championships in Turkey in March 2025.
All eyes were on making a good start to the new season gaining ranking points which will help qualify them for major International events later in the year. This was the first event on the 2024-2025 SBI 18’s Snooker Tour. SBI will be holding four 21’s ranking events plus a National 18’s Championships this season.
The Entry Fees for all Junior events is €10.00 each.

- Dark Shoes (no runners)
- Dark one coloured trousers (no jeans)
- One coloured shirt buttoned at the wrist
- Waistcoats must be worn for all matches in National Championships.
- National Waistcoats are not permissible
- Bowties are also required for the SBI Championships for all matches.
