An international team of 8 players from Wales travelled to the SBI Centre of excellence in Carlow to compete against Team Ireland in the first ever Super Senior Celtic Challenge on Saturday July 9. All players were delighted with the facilities and the high standard of the tables.
The SBI team got off to a fast start with convincing wins in sessions 1 & 2. Wales steadied the boat in session 3 to leave the result in doubt going into the evening sessions. However, the home team hit top form to run out convincing winners by 69 frames – 27
SBI team manager Tony Thorpe was delighted with all the Irish players who performed so well all day to the claim the trophy for Ireland. Everyone involved are already looking forward to the return fixture in Wales next year.
SBI chairman presented the winner’s trophy to Irish team captain Stephen Merrigan who accepted on behalf of his team. All competitors were presented with framed certificates and medals recognising their participation in the event.
