On Saturday the 1st of April, Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a one-day Intro Level Snooker Coaching Education Course to qualify five new SBI Coaches in the SBI HQ in Carlow.
Brian Cunnigham from Cavan, Tommy O Donoghue from Limerick, Sean Wyne from Tullamore, Shane Gorman from Graigue and Stephen Dunne from Edenderry attended the course which was given by our National Coach PJ Nolan and Referee Tutor Neil Shanahan.
This course is approved by Sport Ireland Coaching who governs Coaching in the Republic of Ireland. The Intro Level Course is designed for SBI members who want to start coaching within their local clubs. The coaches have years of playing experience and it will be great to have them on our SBI team.
- Course Syllabus
The course covered everything in the approved coaching syllabus featuring Playing Techniques, Role of Coaches, Training Routines plus the Rules of the Game.
- Congratulations
SBI National Coach PJ Nolan congratulated the five coaches on beginning the coaching process and SBI feel this is an important area in helping grow the game all over Ireland with qualified coaches within the clubs.
- Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare Awareness Course
All coaches will now need to attend a sport partnership 3hr Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course in their own area. These courses are organised by their local sports authority through the Sports Ireland. CLICK HERE
All coaches Garda Vetted
Finally, all coaches will need to complete the Garda vetting before being presented with their Intro Level Accreditation SBI Certificates later in the year.

- Course Costs
The course cost was €25.00. All the coaches must also be paid members of Snooker & Billiards Ireland for the season with the cost of €25.00 per year. Snooker & Billiards Ireland would like to thank all the coaches for attending the successful course on the day.
