Grand Prix title goes to Fernandez

The 6th Senior Snooker Ranking Event on the RIBSA Senior Series was played in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow over the weekend. It was a great final from the two top ranked players in the Republic of Ireland with fantastic potting and break-building from both players.

Mario had a total clearance of 133 break in frame 3 to lead 2 frames to 1 and a 76 break to lead 3-2. After that the Limerick man got stronger to go on and win the RIBSA Grand Prix title 5 frames to 3. In the Semi Finals Rodney Goggins from the 147 Club in Wexford beat John Sutton from Celbridge SC 4 frames to 1 and Mario Fernandez from St Johns beat John Torpey from the Venetian SC Limerick 4 frames to 0 in high quality semi final matches.

There were a number of major shocks in the event with Sean Conway beating Robert Redmond 3-1, Philip Browne beating Robert Murphy 3-0, Karl Fitzpatrick beating Vincent Muldoon 3-2 and John Sutton beating Martin McCrudden 3-2 .The High Break prize went to Mario Fernandez with a fantastic 133 break. Other high breaks in the event were 109 by John Torpey, 104 by Jason Devaney, 100 by Colm Gilcreest and an 89 by Martin Divilly.

RIBSA would like to thank Jim & Marian Leacy from The Ivy Rooms Snooker Club for the excellent facilities and all their help over the weekend. Finally, I would like to thank all the players for another great snooker display and I look forward to seeing them again in Event 7 in Carlow on Saturday / Sunday 9th and 10th of April.

I would also like to remind the players that the re-arranged Event 4 will be played on the 24th & 25th of April in the Ivy Rooms in Carlow
