Daniel ” Steel ” Dempsey won the first Intermediate Snooker Ranking event of the RIBSA season in the South East region today in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow.
In the final Daniel beat last year’s Intermediate S.E. number 1 Richie Flynn from Waterford 3 frames to 1 to lift his first ever RIBSA ranking title. Daniel route to the final was Group wins over Benny O Brien, Adrian Morrissey, Jim Carrick and Andy McCloskey and the Irish Junior International player followed up then with great knock out wins over Dylan Scully, Tony Thorpe and Richie in the final.
Group A was dominated by Richie Flynn with wins over Stephen Bateman, Ernie McMullen and Karl Fitzpatrick. Group B was won by Tony Thorpe who had wins over Ray Power, James McGuinnes and Liam Kelly, Group C was won by Daniel Dempsey and in Group D there was a three way play off involving Paul Kelly, Dylan Scully and James Bateman who all finished with three wins each and were tied on frames. A one red shoot – out decide the qualifying with Paul Kelly beating James and Dylan to win the Group.
They were are joined in the best of 5 knock out stages by Group second placed players like Karl Fitzpatrick, Ray Power, Benny O Brien and Dylan Scully to battle out for the title. The Highest break went to Colvin O Brien with a 66 break, other high breaks were 59, 52 by Daniel Dempsey, 56 by Benny O Brien, 55 by Richie Flynn, 54 by Tony Thorpe.
