David Hogan lifts the Premier Cup

The 4th Senior Snooker Ranking Event ‘ The Premier Cup ‘ was played in Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow over the weekend. Two of the best young players in the country reached the final when David Hogan from New Institute Nenagh faced Vincent Muldoon from Maynooth SC in a repeat of the last Senior Ranking Final played back in November.

In winning the final David Hogan moved into number 1 on the rankings and it promises to be another great fight for the main tour nomination this year. Vincent had a superb event with wins over Anthony Walsh, Greg White, Colvin O Brien, Rodney Goggins and Brendan O Donoghue in the Semi Finals.

David had great wins over John Dillon, Brendan Thomas, Clinton Franey, John Torpey and Martin McCrudden in the Semi Finals. In the final David got in first with a 59 break to win the first frame to get off to a great start back Muldoon with a brilliant 112 break to level the score at 1-1

In frame 3 Vincent had a break of 94 to go 2 – 1 up. David won the fourth frame on the black to level a 2-2 and he then had a break of 64 to go 3 frames to 2 up. Back came Muldoon with a break of 56 in frame six but Hogan won the frame on the pink to go 4 frames to 2 up and one frame away from the title

In frame seven Hogan made a superb break of 77 to win the match and his second senior title of the season. In the Semi finals David Hogan was on fire to beat Martin McCrudden 4 -0 with breaks of 74, 108 and 64. Vincent Muldoon also played great snooker with breaks of 83, 55, 76 and 60 to beat Brendan O’Donoghue who himself had breaks of 75 and 137 in a 4-2 score line.

The Q-Final line on Sunday morning saw Brendan O’Donoghue beat Robert Murphy 4-2, Vincent Muldoon beat Rodney Goggins 4 -2, David Hogan beat John Torpey 4-1 and Martin McCrudden beat Philip Browne 4-1.  The Highest break prize went to Brendan O’Donoghue with a fantastic 141 break. There were eight century breaks in the event with Brendan O Donoghue also having a 137 Break, Vincent Muldoon had 112, 100, Robert Redmond had a 113. Robert Murphy had a 110 and 108 and David Hogan had a 108.

TJ Dowling was unable to compete in this event after his father passed away. Our deepest sympathy goes to him and all his family at this sad time. RIBSA would like to thank Jim & Marian Leacy from The Ivy Snooker Club for the excellent facilities and all their help over the weekend.

Finally I would like to thank all the players for another great snooker display and I look forward to seeing them again in event five on the 12th & 13th of February.
