SBI held the fifth Amateur Snooker Tour Event of the season on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st March in the SBI HQ in Carlow.
We had 46 entries for this event and after day one we were down to the last 4.
There were no major upsets in this event, but we did have a couple of cracking matches which included Mark Tuite vs Mick Judge, David Morris vs Noel Landers and Greg Casey vs Ryan Cronin.
Quarter Finals
- David Morris 4-1 Noel Landers
- Mark Tuite 1-4 Brendan O Donoghue
- Ross Bulman 4-2 Paul McGrane
- Greg Casey 4-3 Ryan Cronin
Semi Finals
- David Morris 2-4 Brendan O Donoghue
- Ross Bulman 4-0 Greg Casey
In the first semi final match it was Brendan who took an early 2 nil lead before David leveled the match at 2 all. Brendan then went back in front taking frame 5 and went on to take the match 4-2 by winning frame 6.
In the second semi final it was Ross who raced into an early 2 nil lead. It looked like Greg was going to get his chance in frame 3 but it was a fluke green which helped Ross extend his lead before clinching the match comfortably by 4 frames to nil.
Final
- Brendan O Donoghue 3-4 Ross Bulman
In the final itself it was Ross who settled the quicker of the 2 players taking the opening frame. Brendan took frame 2 to level the match. Frame 3 was a scrappy one but its Brendan who takes a 2-1 lead. Ross takes frame 4 to level the match at 2 frames each. Ross also takes frame 5 after coming from 50 points behind to lead by 3 frames to 2. Brendan takes frame 6 and levels the match 3 all. Ross takes the deciding frame to take the title with a score line 4-3.
