Brendan Wins 7th Amateur National Title

Brendan O Donoghue from Nenagh continued to create more history in Irish Snooker when he won his 7th Irish Amateur Snooker Championship after a 7 frames to 5 victory over Ross Bulman from Youghal in a brilliant match which was refereed by International referee Pat Mooney.

This is the fourth year in a row for the defending champion from Nenagh to win this prestigious Irish Amateur title. Ross had an incredible tournament and he confirms his Number 1 place on the rankings for the season and i am sure his day will come soon to lift this title to add to all his Junior National titles.

SBI held the 2024 Amateur National Snooker Championship on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May in the SBI HQ in Carlow. The Championship was best of 7 for the qualifying stages with the top half of the draw played on Saturday and the bottom half played on Sunday.

We had 56 entries for this event, and we had 4 qualifiers on each day to make it through the quarter finals on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th to see who can be this year’s National Champion for 2024.

There were 3 century breaks with Leone Crowley making a 105, Ross Bulman 108 but it was Brenadan who takes the high break prize with a magnificent 112 break in the final frame of the match.

Q-Finals

  • Ross Bulman 5-2 Leone Crowley
  • Greg Casey 5-3 Jonathan Williams
  • Brendan O Donoghue 5-2 Mark Gleeson
  • Tommy O Donoghue 0-5 David Morris

Semi Finals

  • Ross Bulman 6-1 Greg Casey
  • Brendan O Donoghue 6-4 David Morris

The two semi finals were epic battles but it was Ross who comfortable beat Greg with a score line of 6 frames to 1.

In the other semi it was nip and tuck all the way but it was Brendan who came through with a score line of 6 frames to 4 just before midnight.

Final

  • Brendan O Donoghue 7-5 Ross Bulman

In the first session of the final it was Brendan who took the opening frame before Ross leveled at 1 -1. The next 4 frames were also shared and at the interval we had a score line of 3 -3. The second session started off like the first with Brendan taking the opening frame of the session. Brendan then went on to win the next frame to take the score to 5-3. Ross pulls a frame back by winning frame 9 to reduce the score line to 5-4.

Brendan regains his 2 frame lead by taking frame 10 and gets to within one for the title 6-4, back came the Irish number 1 to close the gap to 5-6 but in the next frame O Donoghue went on to make a fantastic 112 break to win the title and make it seven heaven for the Nenagh Champion.
