Snooker & Billiards Ireland held their first Snooker in Schools project of the new season, on Thursday the 3rd of September for students from the Scoil Ghobnatan, Mallow in county Cork. This grass roots development program main objective, is to help develop the interest of our sport within schools and to grow the game.
SBI who are the governing body of Snooker and Billiards in the Republic of Ireland were delighted to have the Scoil Ghobnatan, Mallow Primary School students avail of PJ and his SBI team coaching skills.
Learn the Basics
Frank O’Neill, teacher in the School, invited Snooker & Billiards Ireland to hold this promotion day to teach their students, the basics of the game from the SBI National Snooker Coach PJ Nolan and SBI Qualified Coach Shane Gorman.
Mini Star Tables
The four miniature Star snooker tables used today provide opportunities for SBI to introduce the game into schools and at various events to help introduce new younger people to play the game while helping promote our sport going forward.
Gold Medals
The boys learnt how to develop a good Bridge Hand, Stance and Grip through demonstrations by snooker coaches. We also had a final with every group, and the winners received a gold medal.
Fun Day
Frank said ‘’ The boys and all teachers said they really enjoyed the session, and they learnt a lot and had fun doing it. The handouts with the technical information on the fundamentals will encourage them to play more in the future. Scoil Ghobnatan, Mallow School thanked the SBI Coaches for hosting the successful session.
Stars of future
SBI National stars of the future Gearóid and Luke Dempsey from Crucible SC in Cork who are top Junior players on our National 14 Snooker Tour are students in Scoil Ghobnatan, Mallow School.
The two young champions were on hand to display their skills, while their dad and mum had also helped to organised the day. SBI would like to thank everyone plus Shane Gorman for making this snooker in schools day another success today.
Snooker in Schools
SBI will hold more Snooker in Schools projects this season. SBI hope it will help to grow the game Nationwide.
