This weekend seen the long up championship been played down to the final . In the first round we seen Brendan Devlin control his game from start to finish against Robert mc Crum . On the next table we seen John Kehoe vs Joe Doheny play out the tightest game of the round with both players been neck and neck for duration of the 2.5 hour game . It was only with the last few minutes of the game John took the lead and got his name into the next round with a 18 point win,
Into the quarter finals and first match we had was defending Irish champion Wayne Doyle vs John Kehoe, both not at there best but some notable 50+ breaks moved Wayne into the semi finals . Next match up was the 4th seed for the event John Downey vs our youngest player Ciaran Doyle. In what was a gripping match with plenty of safety and good scoring Ciaran controlled the table to register a great 21 point win and become the youngest player to reach an Irish championship semi finals .
Next to make there way to the semi finals was our oldest competitor and 6 times Irish champion Larry drennan, who played solid billiards to get past the Irish ladies billiards champion Annette Newman. And finally it was 7 times Irish champion Aidan Murray who took the final spot in the semi finals with a free flowing game vs Brendan Devlin with some notable 50+ breaks .
Into the semi finals and in our first match we had two brother facing off Wayne Doyle vs Ciaran Doyle. With Wayne coming out the winner which included the highest break of the day a 149, in the other semi finals Larry started off well against Aidan and had a slight lead but back came Aidan with a fantastic 100 break and a 60+ to take control of the game and kept in front to reach the final .
Wayne will now face Aidan in both short and long format championship finals at finals weekend in June . Best of luck to both players.
